Relationship of socioeconomic status to arterial stiffness: Comparison between medical aid beneficiaries and National Health Insurance beneficiaries
American Journal of Hypertension May 14, 2020
Kim HL, Lee JY, Lim WH, et al. - Via retrospectively analyzing individuals [n = 8,929; 60 years old, 8,237 National Health Insurance (NHI) beneficiaries and 692 medical aid (MA) beneficiaries] who had brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) measurement, researchers explored the connection between healthcare systems and arterial stiffness. MA beneficiaries were significantly related to higher baPWV values even after controlling for potential confounders in multivariable analysis. In MA beneficiaries, the baPWV values were significantly higher than in NHI beneficiaries. The outcome of this research offers empirical data about the correlation between low socioeconomic status and arterial stiffening.
