Relationship of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination frequency with health literacy in the rural population in Turkey
Vaccine Oct 09, 2019
Guclu OA, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis, researchers focused on influenza and pneumococcal vaccination status of patients and evaluated factors influencing the uptake of influenza/pneumococcal vaccination. They also investigated how vaccination is influenced by health literacy (HL), which was assessed using the Turkish version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire. Overall participants were 350 in total. Receipt of both vaccines was reported in 6.3% of patients. Being vaccinated with influenza vaccine and with pneumococcal vaccine was reported for 20% and 11.1% of the participants, respectively. Findings revealed an insufficient HL level, which was much higher when compared with earlier studies. An increase in the rate of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination was documented in correlation with a rise in disease prevention HL.
