Relationship between psychosocial stressors and atrial fibrillation in women >45 years of age
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 23, 2018
Westcott SK, et al. - Among 24,809 women participating in the Women's Health Study (WHS), the cross-sectional link between psychosocial stress and atrial fibrillation (AF) was studied. Researchers reported 3.84% prevalence of confirmed AF and difference in risk factor profiles by AF status. A significantly higher financial stress, traumatic life events, and neighborhood stress was seen in women with AF. After adjustment for cardiovascular risk factors, socioeconomic and psychosocial status, AF was noted in significant association with traumatic life events only. A potential link between traumatic life events and AF in older women was suggested by these large-scale cross-sectional data.
