Relation of transthoracic echocardiographic aortic regurgitation to pressure half-time and all-cause mortality
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 02, 2020
Strom JB, Gelfand EV, Markson LJ, et al. - Researchers examined the link of aortic regurgitation (AR) pressure half-time (PHT) on transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and all-cause death in this large, single center, retrospective study. From 2000-2017, they screened 118,647 baseline TTE reports. This analysis involved 2,653 individuals. Findings revealed no independent correlation of AR PHT with mortality. While increased mortality was observed in relation to a PHT ≤ 320 ms in individuals without severe AR, this link lost significance following adjustment for diastolic functional variables. Therefore, prognostically-relevant diastolic dysfunction may be suggested by a PHT ≤ 320 ms in persons without significant AR.
