Relation of hospital volume with in-hospital and ninety-day outcomes after transcatheter mitral valve repair using MitraClip
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 16, 2019
Yeo I, et al. - Researchers used the Nationwide Readmissions Database, to assess the link between hospital volume and outcomes following transcatheter mitral valve repair using the MitraClip device. All patients who had a MitraClip procedure were identified using the aforementioned database. Based on annual procedure volume, they classified hospitals into tertiles: low (≤3 procedures/year), medium (4-13/year), and high (≥14 /year) volume centers. They assessed the effect of institutional MitraClip volume on in-hospital and 90-day outcomes, respectively, via multivariable logistic and Cox regression analyses. According to the findings, low hospital MitraClip volume was identified as an independent determinant of worse outcomes including in-hospital mortality and 90-day readmissions.
