Regional differences in heart failure hospitalizations, mortality, and readmissions in Slovenia 2004–2012

ESC Heart Failure Jul 10, 2019

Omersa D, et al. - Across Slovenian statistical regions, researchers assessed heart failure (HF) hospitalizations, readmissions, and mortality burden. They used the Slovenian National Hospitalization Discharge Registry and identified patients 20 years or over with HF hospitalizations in the period 2004–12. They recorded a total of 156,859 HF hospitalizations, including 55,522 where HF was coded as a main diagnosis and 43,606 as first HF hospitalizations. With regard to standardized HF hospitalization, mortality, and readmissions, significant regional differences were evident across the regions. Findings revealed no disparities in death and readmissions between statistical regions for individual similar patients.
