Reactivation of herpesvirus in patients with hepatitis C treated with direct-acting antiviral agents
Infection and Drug Resistance Apr 11, 2019
Ghweil AA, et al. - In patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection treated with direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agents, researchers focused on reactivation of herpesvirus. Among 100 treated patients with DAA regimens in Qena University Hospital from June 2016 to June 2017, they identified 8 in whom herpesvirus was reactivated in this case-series analysis. No risk factor for herpes zoster reactivation was identified. Six patients received sofosbuvir/daclatasvir-containing DAA regimens and two received sofosbuvir/ledipasvir-containing DAA regimens. Reactivation of viruses, such as herpesvirus, could be due to immune changes that follow HCV clearance. Prompt treatment is recommended for suspected reactivation of herpesvirus in HCV infected patients.
