Randomised controlled trial of two advanced and extended cardiac rehabilitation programmes

Heart Oct 02, 2017

Sunamura M, et al. - In a randomised controlled trial [the OPTICARE (OPTImal CArdiac REhabilitation)], two advanced and extended cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programmes were compared with standard CR for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). With respect to SCORE (Systematic COronary Risk Evaluation) parameters, no added benefits were gained by extending CR with extra behavioral counselling (group sessions or individual telephone sessions). In addition, patients largely reached target levels for modifiable risk factors with few hospital readmissions already following standard CR.
