Quality of life trajectories among stroke survivors and the related changes in caregiver outcomes: A growth mixture study
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Aug 23, 2018
Pucciarelli G, et al. - In this longitudinal dyadic study, researchers identified the distinct quality of life (QoL) trajectories among stroke survivors as well as assess the relationships with the burden, anxiety, and depression of their caregivers. Stroke survivors involved were older adult males (52.0%), most of whom (80.9%) had had ischemic strokes, and the caregivers involved mostly females (65.2%), most of whom were the survivors’ children (50.0%) or spouses (36.1%). Data presented here showed a survivor’s QoL trajectory following a stroke was related to their caregiver’s burden, anxiety, and depression. It was noted that those survivors in the “moderate and slightly worsening QoL” trajectory and their caregivers especially need special care, as they were at risk for the worst outcomes. They found that female gender and blindness were correlated with a “markedly improving QoL” survivor trajectory.
