QRS voltage is a predictor of in-hospital mortality of acutely ill medical patients

Clinical Cardiology Jul 26, 2018

Kellett J, et al. - Whether low QRS voltage can predict the in-hospital mortality of acutely ill patients was assessed in this prospective observational study with unselected acutely ill patients admitted to a resource-poor hospital in sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, QRS voltage was compared with other predictors of mortality that can be easily, quickly and cheaply obtained at the bedside. Findings revealed that in-hospital mortality was independently predicted by low QRS voltage, male gender, the National Early Warning Score, and impaired mobility. These four variables were readily obtained at bedside and had potential in providing a rapid, easy, and cheap risk stratification system.
