Prophylactic antibiotics in the prevention of infection after operative vaginal delivery ((ANODE): A multicentre randomised controlled trial

Knight M, et al. - For the investigation of preventive effects of antibiotic prophylaxis in maternal infection after operative vaginal birth, authors conducted a blinded, randomized controlled trial in 27 UK obstetric wards, females were treated with a single dose of intravenous amoxicillin and clavulanic acid or placebo (saline) after operative vaginal birth at 36 weeks gestation or later. The authors concluded the benefit of a single dose of a prophylactic antibiotic received following operative vaginal birth and guidance from the world health organization and other national organizations.
