Prolonged P-wave duration in sinus rhythm pre-ablation is associated with atrial fibrillation recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation— A systematic review and meta-analysis
Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology Jun 26, 2019
Pranata R, et al. - Through 1,482 patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) post-pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) from twelve cohort studies, the researchers determined the latest evidence on the association of prolonged P-wave duration (PWD) pre-ablation with AF recurrence after PVI. >120 ms to >150 ms were cut-off points for prolonged PWD. In signal-averaged ECG, 12-lead ECG, paroxysmal AF, >120–130 ms, and >140–150 ms PWD cut-off point subgroups, prolonged PWD was significantly correlated to AF recurrence. Therefore, regardless of age, gender, left atrial size, and the presence of structural heart disease, prolonged PWD with a cutoff of >120 ms to >150 ms in sinus rhythm pre-ablation could be related with AF recurrence post-PVI. Predicting models for the inclusion of prolonged PWD as one of their parameters should be investigated via further studies.
