Proinsulin is sensitive to reflect glucose intolerance
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Jun 26, 2019
Nakamura A, et al. - Using a series of estimation methods in a population-based study, researchers examined connections between glucose tolerance and beta-cell function. For this investigation, they analyzed data from the Dynamics of Lifestyle and Neighborhood Community on Health Study. In total, 489 candidates were divided into 3 groups: normal glucose tolerance, prediabetes, and diabetes group. Beta-cell function was estimated by the homeostasis model assessment of beta-cell function, proinsulin level (PI), C-peptide index, proinsulin-to-C-peptide ratio and proinsulin-to-insulin ratio. According to findings, PI was the most sensitive to reflect glucose intolerance.
