Progress of instability in fragility fractures of the pelvis: An observational study
Injury Oct 10, 2019
Rommens PM, et al. - Given that fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) are an increasing entity among elderly persons, researchers desired to know about the natural course of FFP in conservative and after operative treatment. They retrospectively analyzed medical charts and radiologic data of 148 individuals with an FFP who were admitted in a 3-year period. Incidence and fracture progression (FP) characteristics have been noted. According to findings, FP is a real phenomenon that occurs in a minority of patients with FFP. There is the highest risk for female patients. For about 40% of patients with persistent pain or limited mobility, repeated CT scans are positive. Operative care is a successful preventive measure for FP because FP only exceptionally occurs after the operative fixation of FFP.
