Prognostic value of N-terminal pro-form B-type natriuretic peptide in patients with moderate aortic stenosis
The American Journal of Cardiology Feb 19, 2020
Ito S, et al. - To determine the prognostic value of NT-proBNP [N-terminal pro-form of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP)] in moderate aortic stenosis (AS), researchers undertook this study with 261 patients having moderate AS (1.0 < aortic valve area ≤ 1.5cm2 ). Serum NT-pro BNP level was obtained within ± 3 months of the echocardiographic evaluation. A median follow up of 2.7 years revealed 136 (52%) deaths. Aortic valve replacement (AVR) was done in 82 (31%) patients and the median time to AVR was 2.1 years. According to the findings, higher mortality rates related to higher NT-proBNP levels were reported in patients with moderate AS even among those undergoing AVR.
