Prognostic value of N-terminal pro-form B-type natriuretic peptide in patients with moderate aortic stenosis
The American Journal of Cardiology Mar 26, 2020
Ito S, et al. - To determine the prognostic worth of NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-form of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide) in moderate aortic stenosis (AS), researchers performed this study with 261 patients who were diagnosed with moderate AS (1.0 < aortic valve area ≤1.5 cm2) in 2012 with serum NT-pro BNP level obtained within ±3 months of the echocardiographic evaluation. Patients were categorized into 2 classes based on the median NT-proBNP value (888 pg/dl) and all-cause mortality compared. The study sample had a median age of 78 years and 64% of patients were male. A median follow up of 2.7 years revealed 136 (52%) deaths. Findings revealed higher mortality rates in relation to higher NT-proBNP level among patients with moderate AS even among those undergoing aortic valve replacement. .
