Prognostic significance of the mitral L-wave in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 10, 2020
Saito C, Minami Y, Arai K, et al. - To determine if a mitral L-wave can predict adverse events among patients experiencing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC), researchers performed this study, wherein, they ascertained the prevalence of a mitral L-wave in patients with HC, as well as evaluated the prognosis of patients with or without an L-wave. This analysis involved 445 patients with HC. HC-associated mortality, such as sudden death or potentially lethal arrhythmic events, heart failure-related death, and stroke-associated death were the endpoints. A prevalence of 32.4% was reported for an L-wave in HC patients. A significantly higher incidence of HC-related death was documented in those with an L-wave vs those without an L-wave. Findings revealed a possible link between the presence of a mitral L-wave and adverse outcome in patients with HC.
