Prognostic significance of prior ischemic stroke in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jan 16, 2019
Wang H, et al. - Enlisting 10,300 consecutive patients who had percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from January 2013 to December 2013, researchers assessed the long-term outcomes of PCI in patients who had a prior ischemic stroke. Patients were classified into the previous ischemic stroke group (n = 1,106) and no previous ischemic stroke group (n = 9,194). Previous ischemic stroke independently correlated with a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCE), recurrent stroke, and stent thrombosis (ST), according to Cox regression analysis. Risk factors for MACCEs include a high residual syntax score and low renal function. These findings suggest that patients undergoing PCI who have a history of ischemic stroke require increased care and vigorous treatment strategies.
