Prognostic role of left ventricular intramyocardial fatty metaplasia in patients with previous myocarditis (MYOFAT study)
The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 23, 2020
Di Bella G, Gentile G, Irsuti F, et al. - Researchers examined the prevalence of left ventricular intramyocardial fat (LV-IMF) in patients with previous myocarditis by repeating following >3 years a follow-up cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) examination as well as they assessed its clinical and prognostic role. Enrolled cases were those with clinical suspected myocarditis with CMR within the first week from the onset of symptoms and examined via repeated CMR. Greater ventricular volumes and more frequently a mid-wall LGE were detected in LV-IMF positive patients vs those without LV-IMF. Findings revealed that the presence of LV-IMF was not uncommon in patients with previous myocarditis and was shown to be related to worse ventricular remodeling and prognosis.
