Prognostic role of diastolic dysfunction in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Aug 15, 2019
Kampaktsis PN, Vavuranakis M, Choi DY, et al. - Among 359 consecutive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) patients studied in this single-center retrospective analysis, researchers focused on the role of baseline diastolic dysfunction (DD) on results post-TAVR. Patients with atrial fibrillation, mitral valve prostheses, and significant mitral stenosis were excluded from this study. Overall 58% of the patients had moderate-to-severe mitral annular calcification (MAC). All-cause mortality or heart failure hospitalization was assessed as the outcome measure. The only independent predictor of all-cause mortality of heart failure hospitalization was STS score, as revealed in multivariate analysis. Findings revealed a link of severe DD with higher all-cause mortality or heart failure hospitalization but this link was not independent of other structural parameters and recognized predictors of the outcome measure.
