Prognostic impact and periprocedural complications of chronic steroid therapy in patients following transcatheter aortic valve replacement: Propensity-matched analysis from the Japanese OCEAN registry

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions May 28, 2019

Koyama Y, et al. - Using data from a Japanese multicenter registry, researchers determined how chronic steroid use following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) influenced periprocedural complications and clinical outcomes. They identified 1,313 consecutive patients who underwent transfemoral (TF)-TAVR for aortic stenosis. They compared patients in the steroid group to those in the nonsteroid group regarding baseline features, periprocedural complications including vascular complications (VCs), access route related VCs, and clinical outcomes. Although findings revealed no link between increased early mortality and chronic steroid therapy, a possible influence on periprocedural VCs and access route VCs might be seen with chronic steroid use, principally because of surgical cut-down in patients post-TF-TAVR.
