Prior hip arthroscopy increases risk for perioperative THA complications: A matched-controlled Study
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 05, 2019
Vovos TJ, et al. - To examine the consequence of previous hip arthroscopy on total hip arthroplasty (THA) complications, researchers studied 95 hip arthroscopy conversion THAs vs 95 primary THA cases (control), matched by age, gender, and ASA score. They observed longer OR times in conversion cases vs primary THA controls (122 vs 103 minutes). A greater risk of any intraoperative complication and any postoperative complication along with a higher rate of wound complications were reported in conversion cases. They did not notice an incline in the risk of transfusion, infection or periprosthetic fracture between groups. They found no difference in intraoperative or postoperative complications while comparing THA approaches independent of primary or conversion surgery.
