Primary total hip arthroplasty in severe dysplastic hip osteoarthritis with a far proximal cup position
Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 29, 2019
Berninger MT, et al. - Authors studied 50 cases to investigate the functional outcome of far proximal cup positions in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). They divided the candidates according to the heights of the implanted cups with increasing vertical distance from the interteardrop line viz, group A: 55-65 mm, group B: 65-75mm, and group C: >75 mm. They calculated functional outcome with Lower Extremity Functional Score (LEFS), Tegner Activity Score and Harris Hip Score (HHS). The candidates expressed a high satisfaction level with the surgery. They noticed no significant differences with respect to pre- and postoperative leg lengthening. They reported no dislocations, impingement problems, and neurologic complications. Hence, they suggested primary THA with a far proximal cup position, a safe and effective regimen in severe dysplastic hip osteoarthritis.
