Primary renal lymphoma: A population-based analysis using the SEER program (1973-2015)
European Journal of Haematology Mar 12, 2020
Taneja A, et al. - Researchers examined the demographic, clinical, and pathological characteristics of primary renal lymphoma (PRL), using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result database (1984-2015). This analysis involved 599 (0.17% of all non-Hodgkin lymphoma) eligible patients. The age-adjusted incidence was estimated to be 0.035/100,000 population and is growing. The median age was 72 years. In the study sample, most of the participants were Caucasians and males. Unilateral tumors were detected in most of the patients, and the most common histologic type was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The median overall survival (OS) was estimated to be 112 months, while median cause-specific survival (CSS) was not reached. For worse OS and CSS, the strongest independent risk factor was age ≥ 60 years. Better OS and CSS were observed in relation to non-DLBCL histology. Overall, PRL was acknowledged as a rare lymphoma with rising incidence in more recent years.
