Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in pediatric healthcare workers
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Mar 17, 2021
Morris CR, Sullivan P, Mantus G, et al. - Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2-antibody was determined in pediatric healthcare workers (pHCWs). Researchers assessed baseline prevalence of anti-SARS-CoV-2-IgG in a prospective cohort study from a large pediatric healthcare facility. They modeled prevalence differences between emergency department (ED)-based and non-ED-pHCWs, controlling for covariates like prior SARS-CoV-2 testing history, potential risk factors and anxiety level about COVID-19. Among 642 enrolled pHCWs, half had children in their home, 49% had traveled, 42% described an illness since January, 31% had a known COVID-19 exposure, and 8% had SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing. Per findings, Atlanta pediatric healthcare workers (pHCW) had SARS-CoV-2-IgG prevalence of 4.1% between April and August 2020. Pediatric ED-based HCWs were noted to be at heightened risk of COVID-19 infection (8.4% ED vs 2.0% among non-ED pHCWs). In a similar way, high workplace anxiety recognized among frontline ED-based and non-ED based pHCWs was linked with COVID-19.
