Prevalence of resolved paracentral acute middle maculopathy lesions in fellow eyes of patients with unilateral retinal vein occlusion
Acta Ophthalmologica Feb 02, 2020
Maltsev DS, et al. - Researchers conducted this case-control observational study to analyze the prevalence of resolved paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) lesions in fellow eyes of individuals with unilateral retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and eyes of healthy people. Study participants included 45 (64.7 ± 10.8 years) patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), 21 (68.8 ± 11.2 years) patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and 57 healthy individuals (67.4 ± 10.5 years). This investigation was carried out in a referral university medical centre. According to results, resolved PAMM lesions were detected in 32/45 and 15/21 of BRVO and CRVO patients, respectively. In healthy volunteers, resolved PAMM lesions were observed in 11/57 people with bilateral involvement in 8 people. In fellow eyes of patients with unilateral RVO, resolved PAMM lesions defined as inner nuclear layer thinning linked to outer plexiform layer elevation are highly prevalent. RVO may have a relationship with resolved PAMM lesions.
