Prevalence of intracranial aneurysms in patients with systemic vessel aneurysms: A nationwide cohort study
Stroke Nov 24, 2019
Song J, et al. - In a large cohort of individuals with other systemic vessel aneurysms and dissections (OVAD), defined as systemic vessel aneurysms excluding aortic dissections and aneurysms, researchers assessed the prevalence of intracranial aneurysms (IA) and identified potential risk factors for IA in this population. The prevalence of the IA concerning OVAD status was analyzed utiliZing χ2 or Fisher exact test. Data reported that 25.7% of patients had been concurrently diagnosed with IA in OVAD people. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, old age (> 60 years), and male sex had increased chances of 5.89, 3.48, 1.83, and 1.35, respectively, for concurrent IA. Findings suggested that OVAD patients have an IA prevalence that is higher than control groups. Therefore, as a systemic disorder, aneurysms can be approached, and further investigations about their pathophysiology must follow.
