Prevalence of first-degree atrioventricular block and the associated risk factors: A cross-sectional study in rural Northeast China
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Oct 11, 2019
Du Z, Xing L, Lin M, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of participants aged ≥ 40 years from rural northeast China, researchers evaluated the prevalence of first-degree atrioventricular block (AVB) as well as related risk factors. At least two independent cardiologists were selected to establish a diagnosis of first-degree AVB. Using stepwise logistic regression, the assessment of risk factors was done. They reported a prevalence of 3.4% for first-degree AVB. A higher prevalence was observed in males vs females. Overall, first-degree AVB highly prevails in rural regions of northeast China. Being male, older, and taller, higher systolic blood pressure and triglycerides, lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and heart rate, and lack of exercise were documented as associated independent risk factors.
