Prevalence of comorbid major depressive disorder in type 2 diabetes: A meta-analysis of comparative and epidemiological studies
Diabetic Medicine May 31, 2019
Wang F, et al. - In a comprehensive meta-analysis using a random-effects model, researchers studied the average point prevalence of major depressive disorder in people with type 2 diabetes and its related factors. The research included a total of 26 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Data revealed that the point prevalence of major depressive disorder was 14.5%. Compared with the general population, people with type 2 diabetes were more likely to have major depressive disorder. The average point prevalence of major depressive disorder in individuals with type 2 diabetes was high in this meta-analysis. For this population, routine screening and more effective interventions should be carried out. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses revealed that the prevalence of major depressive disorder was significantly moderated by the study site, diagnostic criteria and age.
