Prevalence and risk factors of prolonged corrected QT interval in general Chinese population
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Dec 09, 2019
Ma Q, Li Z, Guo X, et al. - Researchers performed this population-based survey, wherein, they investigated a total of 11,209 participants over the age of 35 in rural regions of Liaoning Province from 2012 to 2013, to assess the prevalence of as well as risk factors for prolonged corrected QT (QTc) interval in the general Chinese population, to ultimately fill the knowledge gaps in the literature as well as to offer proof for potential cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction and disease burden estimate in community. They performed twelve-lead ECGs and automatic analysis on all participants. The overall prevalence of prolonged QTc interval was found to be 31.6%. The factors that were independently related to increased risk for prolonged QTc interval in the fully adjusted logistic regress model were: older age, abdominal obesity, hypertension, diabetes, hypokalemia and any medicine used in the prior two weeks. Overall, a relatively high prevalence of prolonged QTc interval was reported in the general Chinese population. The relevant factors described in this study would assist in the recognition of patients at risk in pre-clinical prevention and offer proof for determining potential CVD burden and constructing management strategies in the community.
