Prevalence and risk factors of cerebral microbleeds in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: An enhanced T2*-weighted angiography imaging study
European Neurology Jun 15, 2019
Li Z, et al. - Via a single retrospective center study that included 113 patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), the researchers intended to investigate the prevalence of cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) and risk factors in atrial fibrillation (AF) patient population. In comparison to patients without CMBs, the frequency of smokers, hypertension, previous ICH, and leukoaraiosis were significantly greater in patients with CMBs. Hence, it was concluded that there was an association between patients' age and warfarin treatment along with other mentioned factors. Furthermore, neither CHA2DS2-VASc score nor HAS-BLED score had any correlation with CMBs in patients with NVAF.
