Prevalence and predictors of anal incontinence 6 years after first delivery
Neurourology and Urodynamics Oct 18, 2018
Johannessen HH, et al. - Experts sought to explore the prevalence and predictors of anal incontinence (AI) experienced 6 years after first delivery. While 21% experienced AI 6 years after first delivery, findings suggested a significant reduction in the prevalence of AI from late pregnancy. Increase in the risk of AI was observed in relation to a higher focus on modifiable risk factors for AI, such as BMI, OASIS, and history of PFDs, but it may be beneficial in reducing incontinence problems the short-and long-term. Moreover, they noted an association of long-term AI with instrumental first delivery and sustaining a perianal tear grade three or four at first delivery.
