Prevalence and outcome of early recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmias in the cryoballoon vs irrigated radiofrequency catheter ablation (CIRCA-DOSE) study
Heart Rhythm Jun 16, 2021
Steinberg C, Champagne J, Deyell MW, et al. - Researchers investigated the incidence as well as results of patients experiencing early recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia (ERAT) following pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using advanced-generation ablation technologies. This work is a prespecified sub-analysis of the CIRCA-DOSE trial, a prospective, randomized, multicenter investigation comparing PVI with contact force-guided radiofrequency ablation vs secondary-generation cryoballoon ablation for paroxysmal AF. An implantable cardiac monitor was received by all patients to permit continuous rhythm monitoring. Any recurrent atrial tachyarrhythmia within the first 90 days post-AF ablation was defined as ERAT. At a median of 12 days (range 1-90 days) post-ablation, occurrence of ERAT in 61% of the 346 patients was documented. According to findings, patients commonly developed early recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia post-PVI despite use of advanced-generation ablation technologies. Elevated risk of late recurrence was observed in relation to early AF recurrence beyond 3 weeks post-ablation.
