Prevalence and incidence of intraventricular conduction delays and outcomes in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction: Insights from PARADIGM‐HF and ATMOSPHERE
European Journal of Heart Failure Aug 19, 2020
Kristensen SL, Castagno D, Shen L, et al. - In the PARADIGM‐HF and ATMOSPHERE trials, researchers investigated the importance of intraventricular conduction delay (IVCD), incidence of new IVCD as well as its link with results in heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Participants were 11,861 patients without an intracardiac device. Primary composite outcome was cardiovascular death or HF hospitalization and all‐cause mortality. A median follow‐up of 2.5 years was performed. As per the findings, worse clinical outcomes were reported in relation to a wide QRS, regardless of morphology, in patients with HFrEF. The annual incidence of new‐onset left bundle branch block was estimated to be around 2.5% and was shown to be related to a higher risk of adverse results, emphasizing the importance of repeat ECG review.
