Prevalence and correlates of binge drinking among older adults with multimorbidity
Drug and Alcohol Dependence Apr 18, 2018
Han BH, et al. - This is the first study aimed at characterizing multimorbidity among older binge drinkers using national data. Compared to non-binge drinkers, current binge drinkers had a lower prevalence of multimorbidity, possibly because older adults in good health are apt to drink more than adults in poorer health. Among older adults with multimorbidity, current use of tobacco and substance use disorder were observed to be associated with an increased risk for binge drinking. Binge drinking by older adults with multimorbidity may pose significant health risks. This seemed particularly evident with the concurrent use of other substances.
