Prevalence and consequences of non-cardiac incidental findings on pre-procedural imaging in the work-up for transcatheter aortic valve implantation, renal sympathetic denervation or MitraClip implantation
American Heart Journal Jul 18, 2018
Feyz L, et al. - In this study involving a total of 916 patients who underwent pre-procedural computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the workup for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) or MitraClip implantation, researchers determined the commonness and impacts of CT- or MRI- generated non-cardiac incidental findings (IF). They found that patients referred for cardiovascular procedures frequently had IF. Also, they observed that regardless of the clinical relevance of IF, they usually did not cause a delay or cancellation of the intended procedure in the vast majority of cases. Importantly, 1-year mortality was not significantly affected by the presence of a major or moderate IF.
