Prestroke statins use reduces oxidized low density lipoprotein levels and improves clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation related acute ischemic stroke
BMC Neurology Oct 26, 2019
He L, Xu R, Wang J, et al. - In patients with atrial fibrillation (AF)-related acute ischemic stroke (AIS), researchers ascertained if prestroke statins use could reduce plasma oxidized low density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) levels and improve clinical outcomes. There were 136 patients in no prestroke statins use group, and 106 patients in prestroke statins use group. According to this multicenter prospective study, prestroke statins use was related to decreased 3-month mortality, major disability, and composite outcome in fully adjusted models. In patients with AF-related AIS, prestroke statins use can decrease plasma Ox-LDL levels and improve clinical outcomes.
