Preoperative circulating succinate levels as a biomarker for diabetes remission after bariatric surgery
Diabetes Care Aug 07, 2019
Ceperuelo-Mallafré V, Llauradó G, Keiran N, et al. - In this investigation, researchers determined the potential use of baseline circulating succinate to anticipate type 2 diabetes remission following bariatric surgery. Forty-five obese diabetes patients were randomly assigned to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, or laparoscopic greater curvature plication. According to results, succinate baseline concentrations following bariatric surgery were an independent predictor of diabetes remission. Investigators found that decreased circulating succinate was seen following bariatric surgery. Baseline succinate concentrations have predictive value for diabetes remission regardless of presurgical variables earlier mentioned and enhance the present ratings available to predict remission.
