Preferences for HIV testing services among men who have sex with men in the UK: A discrete choice experiment

PLoS Medicine May 06, 2019

Miners A, et al. - Since HIV testing remains low in high-risk populations, such as men who have sex with men (MSM), researchers evaluated how different HIV testing features influence the choice of testing option in the UK. By asking men in the UK with an interest in online material used by MSM to complete an online questionnaire, they evaluated the preferences for various HIV test features. The findings suggest that preferences are largly contrary. One group, which contains most of the MSM, seems to be comfortable with HIV testing, but instead of remote testing, prefers testing by face-to-face healthcare professionals. The other much smaller group has MSM that more likely to be at high risk of infection, and remote testing may significantly increase net testing rates for these individuals, especially if it is free of charge.
