Predictors of survival in rectal squamous cell carcinoma: An analysis from the National Cancer Database (NCDB)
Journal of Clinical Oncology Feb 03, 2019
Tella SH, et al. - This is the largest registry-based study to date on rectal squamous cell carcinoma (RSCC). Using Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank test, univariate and multivariable methods, researchers determined the prognostic factors and survival outcomes of RSCC in the US. From the National Cancer Data Base (2004-2015), 5,527 histologically confirmed cases of RSCC were identified. At present, overall survival (OS) is RSCC varies significantly depending on stage of the disease and therapy received. Findings suggested an association of surgical resection of primary tumor with improved OS vs patients who received chemoradiation.
