Predictors of mortality in patients infected with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii: A systematic review and meta-analysis
American Journal of Infection Control Apr 22, 2019
Du X, et al. - Researchers performed a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases identifying a total of 19 observational studies reporting mortality predictors in patients infected with Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB). As per findings, inappropriate empirical antimicrobial treatment, septic shock, chronic liver disease, chronic renal disease, hypertension, neutropenia, immunosuppressant use, total parenteral nutrition, and intubation were risk factors for higher mortality in patients with CRAB infections. Those who wouldn’t survive displayed higher acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score at admission and Pitt bacteremia score at the onset of CRAB bacteremia.
