Predictors of cardiac function in acute heart failure patients with mid-range ejection fraction: AURORA study
ESC Heart Failure Jun 27, 2019
Yanagawa K, et al. - Analyzing 159 consecutive heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF) patients out of 1,051 heart failure patients from Acute Heart Failure Registry in the Osaka Rosai Hospital, researchers sought factors associated with improvement in ejection fraction (EF) over 1 year in acute heart failure (AHF) patients with HFmrEF. As per the multivariate analysis, improvement in the EF could be independently observed in correlation to albumin (Alb), left ventricular dimension during diastole, and coronary angiogram performed during hospitalization. They recommend evaluating for any ischemic heart disease during hospitalization in AHF patients with HFmrEF. This was particularly recommended for patients with non-enlarged left ventricular and non-reduced serum Alb. AHF patients with HFmrEF who showed improvement in the EF vs those without improvement more frequently had better prognosis.
