Predictors of atrial fibrillation early recurrence following cryoballoon ablation of pulmonary veins using statistical assessment and machine learning algorithms
Heart and Vessels Aug 27, 2018
Budzianowski J, et al. - Researchers used statistical assessment and machine learning algorithms in order to evaluate the prognostic value of laboratory and clinical parameters for detecting early recurrence of atrial fibrillation (ERAF) in 118 consecutive patients (mean age, 62.5 ± 7.8 years; women 36%) with paroxysmal (54.1%) and persistent (45.9%) atrial fibrillation (AF) who had their first pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) performed by cryoballoon ablation (CBA). In statistical analysis, ERAF following CBA was shown to be predicted by the lowered levels of post-ablation troponin-T (TnT) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) with the TnT elevation. A better clinical outcome due to a more sustained PVI has been reported in relation to a greater myocardial biomarkers release. A significant association of diabetes and statin treatment with ERAF after CBA was also evident. The results of univariate analysis were corroborated by machine learning algorithms.
