Predictors, burden and the impact of arrhythmia on patients admitted for acute myocarditis
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 01, 2018
Adegbala O, et al. - In a myocarditis population, researchers evaluated the burden, the predictors of arrhythmia, as well as the link between arrhythmias and adverse in-hospital outcomes. Participants were examined for the frequency of various tachyarrhythmias and bradyarrhythmia. Independent predictors of arrhythmias were determined using a logistic model, and the impact of arrhythmias was determined using a 1:1 propensity-matched analysis. They found that cardiac arrhythmias were present in a significant proportion of patients with myocarditis; ventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation were the most commonly detected arrhythmias. They observed worse outcomes in relation to the occurrence of arrhythmias in myocarditis. These findings suggested that risk stratification could be important to identify those who will benefit from early intervention.
