Predicting seizures in pregnant women with epilepsy: Development and external validation of a prognostic model
PLoS Medicine May 21, 2019
Allotey J, et al. - For the development and validation of a prognostic model via using information collected during the antenatal booking visit and for the prediction of seizure risk at any time in pregnancy and until 6 weeks postpartum in women with epilepsy on antiepileptic drugs, investigators conducted a prospective cohort study (EMPiRE) involving 527 pregnant women with epilepsy on medication recruited from 50 hospitals in the UK. Good performance in predicting the risk of seizures in pregnant women with epilepsy who were prescribed antiepileptic drugs was exhibited by the EMPiRE model. Care of women with epilepsy can be integrated by a tool within the antenatal booking visit, used as a simple nomogram.
