Predicting 15-year mortality in adults with congenital heart disease using disease severity and functional indices
Canadian Journal of Cardiology May 02, 2019
Ombelet F, et al. - In 629 patients with congenital heart disease (median age=24y; 60% men), researchers investigated and compared the significance of disease severity and functional indices, including disease complexity scores based on criteria of Task Force 1 of the 32nd Bethesda Conference; Disease Severity Index; New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class; Ability Index; and Congenital Heart Disease Functional Index (CHDFI), for predicting 15-year mortality. The prediction of long-term mortality could be done with the help of the Task Force 1 of the 32nd Bethesda Conference, the NYHA functional class, the Ability Index and the CHDFI. The highest discrimination ability was displayed by CHDFI, which stressed the significance to combine both anatomical and physiological variables to predict long-term mortality.
