Popliteal artery injuries. less ischemic time may lead to improved outcomes
Injury Jul 31, 2020
Asensio JA, Dabestani PJ, Miljkovic SS, et al. - This study was undertaken to distinguish predictors of outcome; mechanism of injury (MOI), Mangled Extremity Severity Score (MESS) score, and length of ischemic time. Researchers assumed that ischemic time as close to six hours results in improved outcomes. A retrospective 132-month study was applied including a total of 76 patients. This study findings demonstrate that reducing the ischemic time from arrival to the restoration of perfusion may lead to improved outcomes and elevated limb salvage. For amputation, MESS is not predictive. Blunt MOI is a risk factor for amputation. It was considered that maintaining ischemic times as close to six hours as possible may lead to improved outcomes.
