Physical activity preferences for people living with multiple myeloma: A qualitative study
Cancer Nursing Aug 29, 2017
Melinda C et al. – Physical activity (PA) has important benefits for patients with multiple myeloma (MM). This study examined the PA preferences in patients living with MM to increase participation and understand the preferred role of clinicians. After treatment, low– to moderate–intensity PA may interest patients with MM. Flexible programs should be designed to consider PA preferences, functional status, and treatment schedules.
Methods
- Semistructured interviews were conducted in patients with MM (N = 24).
Results
- Light- to moderate-intensity PA was found to interest patients with MM during and after treatment.
- The highest preference for a PA program was noted 2 to 8 months after treatment.
- The timing of information delivery was considered important, along with directions from clinicians and organizations with MM knowledge
