Physical activity, cardiorespiratory fitness, and cardiovascular outcomes in individuals with atrial fibrillation: The HUNT study
European Heart Journal Feb 22, 2020
Garnvik LE, Malmo V, Janszky I, et al. - In this study with 1,117 atrial fibrillation (AF) patients from the HUNT3 study, researchers assessed the prospective links of physical activity (PA) and estimated cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) (eCRF) with all-cause death, cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, morbidity and stroke. They employed Cox proportional hazard regression to analyze the prospective links of self-reported PA and eCRF with the results. Findings revealed a lower long-term risk of CVD and all-cause mortality in relation to higher PA and CRF among individuals with AF. A role for regular PA and enhanced CRF in people with AF was supported to combat the high risk for mortality and morbidity.
