Peripheral retinal imaging biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease: A pilot study
Ophthalmic Research Apr 09, 2018
Csincsik L, et al. - Researchers assessed if ultra-widefield (UWF) retinal imaging could identify biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and its progression. A significant relationship between AD and peripheral hard drusen formation and changes to the vasculature beyond the posterior pole, at baseline (BL) and after clinical progression over 2 years was revealed by the UWF retinal imaging, thereby suggesting that monitoring pathological changes in the peripheral retina could become a valuable tool in AD monitoring.
